Leftover Pumpkin? Make Gnocchi!

In Argentina, on the 29th of the month, the tradition is to make gnocchi, Los Ñoquis del 29. There are a few stories to explain the origins of this tradition but, regardless, it is a nice excuse to get together with friends and family.

Last month, when Juan’s mom told me about this tradition, I made Pumpkin Gnocchi. We served them with a brown butter-shallot-walnut sauce. The recipe could be easily adapted for any leftover pumpkin from Thanksgiving. Enjoy!

Ginny’s Pumpkin Gnocchi
2 cans pumpkin
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
enough flour to create a non-sticky dough (about 4 cups)

Mix all the ingredients together. Roll the gnocchi (add more flour if necessary) and boil until they rise to the top of pot.

Bacon Takedown!!!

The Results are in… for the Bacon Takedown… First things first, I didn’t win but I had an excellent time!

It was fun to finally put my culinary skills to the test… I made popcorn with cinnamon-chili candied bacon and Bacon Empanadas with pear-swiss-thyme-bacon filling… They were very well received… I ran out in less than an hour…

There were so many other delicious bacon things… My personal favorites: Rafael’s Bacon Greyere English Muffins, Grok’s Science Show (Elise and Caitlyn)’s Bacon, Asiago and Onion Quiche, and McMahon’s Maple Bacon Caramel Corn.

Overall, I had a great day… although I’d rather not see bacon for awhile now… But I definitely would like to continue competing…

My Birthday Feast!

Well, it has happened… I’m another year older and apparently, wiser? mmm… I have had a lovely day thanks for my friends and family. It culminated with a delicious Asian inspired feast and a Peach-Vanilla Pie… We started with Vietnamese Vegetarian Spring Rolls followed by Singapore Chili Shrimp and Chicken A La Nueces De La India. For dessert, they put candles on top of my Peach-Vanilla Pie made with Tartine‘s Flaky Pie Crust.  Thank you for making this birthday wonderful!
