Sugar Rush…

A Sachertorte has been on the list of things to make for a long long time. A few years ago, I was having Champagne and dessert one lovely afternoon at Afterwords with my old roommate (yes, she was fun to live with- enjoyed food immensely!). I had the Sachertorte and since that moment, I’ve wanted to make my own.

But as any baker knows, you often have a list a mile long of what to bake… A recent Saveur even had a recipe for the Sachertorte as part of its piece on the original bakery in Vienna but still it went unmade…

Until I started realizing I needed to clean out the fridge in preparation for my summer internship in DC.  I had some apricot jam leftover from my Apricot-Brie Souffles and thus a Sachertorte was finally born…

I used this Sachertorte and could not find the one from Saveur in my pile of magazine clippings. It was delicious! I had a little trouble getting the egg whites to be stiff for some reason but I did not want to waste six more eggs so I just used them as is. The cake was a little more dense but still tasted great. I just opted not to cut it in half. Also, the glaze is more like a fudge and sets up very quickly so pour it soon after taking it off the stove.  Is there anything better than chocolate?

Chocolate Cravings…

I’m living in a fog of partnerships, corporations, international copyright, patents… oh yes, first rule of food blogger don’t bore your readers… sorry!

However, thoughts of chocolate were distracting me from studying so I made these Best Cocoa Brownies from Alice Medrich’s Bittersweet via Piece of Cake.  They were delicious!  Decadent and fudgy!  Considering this cookbook has a section on brownies, I’ll be checking it out this summer… mmm… how many brownies is too many in one day?

Celebrate Good Times…

Come on! Today was the last day of class… so exciting! Just need to study for exams and then summer!

I’ll be in DC this summer so I’m beginning the fun and creative process of cleaning out the fridge, freezer and pantry… So many fun ideas…  stay tuned… also, I’ll start working on the Culinary Mad Libs recipes… if you have not given me an ingredient and entered the giveaway, please jump on over and leave a comment.

Recently, I was enthralled by Ideas in Food’s Hot Chocolate Brownies.  They always have such amazing ideas.  I happened to have some really good dark swiss chocolate hot chocolate mix that I used. I did not add the nuts or caramel. They were very good, however, they did have more of a box-brownie taste than I would have liked.  Of course, not enough to stop me from devouring them.
