San Francisco

January 31st, 2010

Juan and I spent a couple days in San Francisco in November… yep, I am just getting around to posting this…

We don’t have a ton of pictures… but I picked a few… we roamed around as per usual… went to Alcatraz…

we saw some sea lions… and none too late apparently

giggled over the composting bin…

saw the last known pay phone in Chinatown… oh yes, ate some great food including Tartine… more on that to come!   Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!  Juan is here visiting so I’m quite happy!

Happy Golden Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday, L! Have a wonderful day!  Since I can’t be there, I baked you some cupcakes… Vanilla with Cajeta Icing… golden colored for your golden birthday…

I made Cajeta this weekend… overcooked it a little bit but it was still delicious.  I halved the recipe and did not use any cinnamon sticks.  For the cake, I made the dinette cake, baked for 25 minutes for a dozen cupcakes.  Watch them so they don’t burn- mine came out a bit brown.  I found a recipe for icing here and had to add a little milk to make it a little thinner… very sweet but quite delicious!

I just need to share…

… my greatest purchase of 2010… My new Kitchen Cart!

If you have had the misfortune of reading my blog… you have heard me frequently lament about the tiny-tiny annoyingness that is my kitchen… it is just way too small for a cook! There is no place to put things… opening a cabinet can be dangerous because you never know what is going to fall on you… I have broken so many plates and glasses because of the space issue (yes, that is the excuse I’m sticking too…)

One problem is where to have a pantry… I started using my window sills until the winter hit and puddles of condensation formed… then I made nice little neat stacks on the ground… threw boxes of pasta in the middle of pots and pans… but it was cluttered and disorganized…

Until, I read this post… and I succumbed to it…  Did I mention it is the best purchase of 2010?

Everything fits so nicely and when I don’t need it… I just roll it between the fridge and the stove… it has made my week… just wanted to share…
