Costa Rica: Mar y Sol

September 23rd, 2009

Oh, how nice it would be to go back to Costa Rica… sip a yummy fruity drink…sit overlooking a gorgeous view… eat delicious food…
Normally, I am not one for restaurant reviews but Juan and I loved Mar y Sol so much that we took a ton of pictures so I could blog about it… well, as I was putting this post together, I realized that I sort of forgot what we ate… I do remember it being amazing… so much in fact that Juan and I went two nights in a row…. there were just so many other things I wanted to try. If you are ever in Playa de Flamingo, it is definitely worth going too… a beautiful view and such delicious food!  The first night, Juan and I ate in the bar area overlooking the ocean.  We started with the drinks above that were fruity and yummy.  We were served a bread basket with some herb butter and tomato bruscettas… I may have eaten too much of the bread.  For the first course, we started with soup. He chose the lobster bisque with caviar and I had the gazpacho with avocado.
For our second course, we shared the tuna tartare with truffle oil and avocados… so delicious! Then, we shared the homemade salmon raviolis in a dill cream sauce… those were the highlight of the first night’s dinner… Wow!  I’m still drooling thinking about them…  at that point, I wanted to try the chocolate dessert but could not eat another bite… Juan being the amazing man that he is said… let’s come back tomorrow…

The second night, we started off with fancy drinks again this time sitting in the normal dining room overlooking the ocean and a little more romantic. I had a kir royale… then we tried the beef carpaccio…not wanting to fill up on bread… I tried to resist but I’m pretty sure I asked for more…  For my entree, I had the fish above… with a mango salsa, I believe… it was great!
Juan had this huge platter of seafood with a coconut-lobster sauce… he liked it…

Finally, we ended the night with the chocolate cake I had been eying and some coffee…which I ordered for us, after Juan coached me a bit on how to say everything correctly…  all the food was fabulous, the service excellent, the view beautiful, and the company, well, I’m sure you can guess…  wow, I would really  like those raviolis for dinner tonight…
