My Chair Bread…

September 26th, 2009

A while ago, I stumbled across the Art House Co-op. They organize and exhibit co-operative art projects.  I decided to join the 10,000 project… 10,000 people are given a word and asked to interpret it.  Our word was CHAIR.  Well, after some thought, I realized that food is my art… so I came up with Chair bread using Cinnamon, Hazelnuts, Apples, Icing and Raisins… delicious!

My Chair Bread
(adapted from the Joy of Cooking)

3 tablespoon warm water
1 package yeast
1 cup warm milk
5 tablespoons butter, melted
3 tablespoons sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour

1. Dissolve the yeast in the water and let sit for 5 min.
2. Add milk, butter, sugar, egg, salt and 2 cups of flour.
3. Gradual add 2 cups of flour until the dough is moist but not sticky.
4. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
5. Transfer to an oiled bowl and flip to oil the other side.
6. Let rise until doubled in size about an hour.
7. Roll the dough out into a rectangle and sprinkle with the CHAIR ingredients. Roll up the dough and place the seam side down into a greased 9 x 5 in loaf pan.
8. Let rise for another hour.
9. Preheat oven to 375. Brush with scrambled egg and bake for 40-45 minutes until the loaf sounds hallow when tapped.
